This unit focuses on the role of Australian agriculture in global food production and how systems are rapidly changing in response to the need for greater productivity and more environmentally responsible production. Key temperate crop and pasture species are introduced and a systems approach is then used to illustrate the relationships between crops, pastures, livestock, weeds, plant disease and the environment including soils and a potentially changing climate. Case studies include conservation and precision agriculture, saltlands, new pasture legumes, perennial pastures and crop models. -- Course Website
