This unit gives students understanding of the scope of surgical podiatry in the Australian context by strategic podiatric clinical and surgical placements and hospital rotations. Students observe the appropriate selection of surgical procedures, observe operative procedures and perioperative patient management and are instructed in basic wound biopsy, wound closure and below-knee immobilisation techniques.<br/><br/>The unit involves introductory podiatric surgery practical experience within the UWA Podiatric Surgery Clinic and selected clinical and surgical placements under the supervision of an academic staff member or designate.
