This unit provides an understanding of the effects of ionising and non-ionising radiation on the human body and the risks involved in the use of radiation and radiation protection methods. It introduces the student to the basic concepts and principles of radiation safety including an understanding of the underlying physics, the biological effcts of radiation, sources of radiation, risk identification, exposure and protection methods. An understanding of the national and state legislative requirements with respect to various forms of radiation is also developed. -- Course Website
