What is the nature of reality? Does the appearance of the world match its underlying reality, or is much of the world's appearance a product of our minds? This unit approaches the question through three areas that pervade our perception: colour, time and causation. We thus ask: What is colour? Is it mind-independent or do our minds somehow project colour onto the world? Does colour even exist? What is causation? When we drop a glass and see it smash on the floor, do we literally perceive the causal process of the glass smashing or do we infer causation from the before and after stages?
