In this unit, several classes of drugs are studied to facilitate the consolidation of concepts introduced in PHCY5618 Medicinal Chemistry for Pharmacy I. Particular attention is given to (1) structure–activity relationships (understanding and appreciating the influence chemical structures have on drug action); (2) molecular features of drugs in relation to physiochemical and therapeutic characteristics; (3) mechanisms of drug action at the molecular level and influence of physiochemical properties of drugs on their activity and/or toxicity, absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion; and (4) therapeutic applications (relating drug chemistry to the principal therapeutic... -- Course Website
