The prime objective of this unit is to provide students with an understanding of issues that may or will impact on public health in the near and long term including an appreciation of new discoveries and technologies in the areas of biomedicine and biotechnology that are likely to improve human health. The unit is divided into two main themes: (1) emerging public health issues; and (2) emerging pharmaceutical technologies. Topics discussed under emerging public health issues are considered in terms of diseases, drugs and nutrition.
