This unit provides an introduction to petroleum systems and to geological and geophysical techniques used in petroleum exploration. Topics related to petroleum systems include the classification of sediment and sedimentary rocks, the significance of bedding, sedimentary basins, the deformation of sedimentary basins, source and reservoir rocks and facies analysis, traps and seals and the petroleum play concept. Exploration techniques covered include field mapping, seismic acquisition and interpretation, and petrophysical logging techniques.<br/><br/>Students may be required to attend additional workshops, seminars or lectures from visiting academics or industry specialists. -- Course Website
