This unit builds on PATH5516 Introduction to Clinical Laboratory Genetics and provides students with a sound knowledge and understanding of the practical aspects of core clinical laboratory cytogenetics including (1) tissue culture techniques; (2) karyotype analysis; (3) FISH techniques and analysis; (4) microarray analysis; (5) determining appropriate testing regimes; and (6) preparation of appropriate reports.<br/><br/>The unit is designed to provide the practical knowledge to supervise routine testing in all aspects of clinical laboratory cytogenetics and to produce clinical cytogenetic test reports at the level required in a sophisticated tertiary cytogenetics laboratory setting.
