This unit examines why and how music can be used by individuals, taking perceptual and cognitive processes as the central theme, e.g. how musical memory operates or why individuals work in chamber music ensembles. Using residential teaching and distance learning readings with self-assessing unit materials, students develop theoretical knowledge and apply it to practical situations. One assessed 2500-word essay demonstrates reflective critical knowledge, especially in responding to ethical and methodological issues in the domain. -- Course Website
