This unit focuses on the study of performance practices and the performance of repertoire from a range of historical periods with a special focus on stylistically appropriate techniques and conventions. Aspects covered may include notational conventions and their interpretation; practical and theoretical treatises and their application to historically informed performance; historical and social contexts and their impact on musical composition and performance; as well as instruments and their specialised techniques.
