This unit examines the development of opera and related forms from its origins in the Baroque period to the present day. This is pursued both through detailed study of some representative works, together with background lectures and discussion sessions which examine the broad issues surrounding the development of the operatic genre and its various sub-genres.<br/><br/>This unit is an elective unit in the Music Studies major in the Bachelor of Arts degree. It is also open to students enrolled in other majors and degree pathways who fulfill the prerequisites and who have an interest in music. -- Course Website
