This unit gives a broad understanding of those infectious diseases that afflict populations living in the tropical and underdeveloped parts of the world. It is useful for doctors, nurses, aid workers, members of the military, medical scientists and others planning to work in these areas, or those who deal with returned travellers or immigrants either clinically or in the laboratory. The unit covers the major tropical infectious agents from the bacteria, viruses, helminths, protozoa and fungi in terms of life cycles, transmission, clinical illness, diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
