Mathematics is the language of quantitative science and logic, but mathematics has had a significant role shaping society and culture from ancient civilisations, to the modern globalised world. This unit examines some of the many influences of mathematics on abstract thought, conceptions of reality, the nature of truth and valid argument, the development of science and technology, and the evolution of language and communication. The unit gives an appreciation of mathematic's influence without going into the difficult details. -- Course Website
