This unit examines the major themes in feminist legal theory and their application to specific areas of law. Theoretical questions asked include whether 'rights' discourse is effective; to what extent change is possible through legal structures; and what function the public–private dichotomy underlying liberal jurisprudence performs. Emphasis is placed on the intersection of race and gender. Areas of law examined include criminal law, family law, constitutional law and aspects of civil law. -- Course Website
