The victim has come to play an increasing role in criminal justice policy and practice. This unit explores this development against the backdrop of relevant theoretical literature. It considers the extent and demographics of victimisation, comparing women and men, the young and the old, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal and urban and rural victims. It considers questions of family, domestic and sexual violence and also the relevance to the debate of 'victimless crimes'.
