This unit is taken over two semesters and parts 1 and 2 must be completed to fulfil the requirements of the unit. <br/><br/>Part 1 includes lectures on the topics of basic features of micro-organisms, pathogenesis and the role of virulence factors. Lectures on the broad groups of pathogenic microbes cover Gram-negative bacteria, Gram-positive bacteria, anaerobic bacteria, chlamydias, mycoplasmas, mycobacteria, spirochaetes, respiratory viruses, enteroviruses, arboviruses, poxviruses, papovaviruses, PRIONS, herpes viruses, viruses causing gastroenteritis and hepatitis, rubella, parvovirus B19, retroviruses, fungal pathogens and parasitic pathogens including helminthes and protozoa.... -- Course Website
