This design-based unit introduces students to the idea of the design team, and to the various essential and complementary areas of knowledge that contribute to the design project in its broad definition. It focuses on design projects of moderate complexity that directly involve the contribution of several different design and technological disciplines in order to reach a resolution. The unit focuses on design projects that involve industrial production of components to make up a whole. To this end the unit covers modular systems, repetitive operations, multicomponent systems, assembly processes, technical performance requirements and their application to specific design problems.
