Groundwater use leads to impacts, hence the importance for understanding these impacts and development of policies for sustainable use of groundwater. This unit explores the impacts of groundwater use on both aquifers systems and dependant ecosystems. Groundwater quantity/quality feedback processes are also explored. The unit explores the impact of physical aquifer pumping/dewatering, implications of inorganic contamination and the tolerances and thresholds for dependant ecosystem impact or collapse.
