This is an introductory unit at an advanced level for Petroleum Engineering. The topics covered are the petroleum generation, exploration, drilling, stresses in the Earth's crust and the well stability, hydraulic fracturing, petrophysics, logging, reservoir characterisation, the operations, maintenance and decommissioning phases of a reservoir, and the economic parameters involved in developing a reservoir, and extraction and production. Students utilise the knowledge gained during '3' cycle, for example by working on practical problems of well failure and stability, hydraulic fracturing using hard data and petro-physical properties. -- Course Website
