This unit examines in detail the patterns of inheritance and the effects of genetic variation at the molecular level. It builds on the relationship between the nature of DNA and the inheritance of traits covered in GENE2230 Molecular Genetics I by exploring how genetic tools, such as markers and model organisms, are identified, developed and used to study the molecular basis of inheritance. State-of-the-art technologies used to analyse genes and their products are considered and practised. The unit prepares students for subsequent Level 3 units in the Genetics major, which can lead to opportunities in biomedical research, plant and animal biotechnology and breeding, medical and... -- Course Website
