This is an advanced unit linking soil, water and plant sciences in the environmental context of disturbed land. Disturbances to be considered are diffuse and point-source contamination and land use changes in the context of urban development and mine site environments. Organic and inorganic contaminants are covered along with chemical, physical and biological remediation techniques, including bioremediation using microbes and phytoremediation using plants. Aspects of land rehabilitation as part of a holistic approach to remediation is embedded as an essential part of this unit.
