This unit covers a broad range of topics of relevance to students from diverse backgrounds with a shared interest in the sustainable use of the coastline and our marine resources. The unit covers issues such as the theory and practice of integrated coastal zone management, institutions and tools in marine planning and the ability of managers to use these in order to contend with past and present impacts of human activities on coastal environments. It commences with an introduction to coastal zone planning and management, identifying the components of integrated coastal zone management and its relevance, using exemplars from overseas to illustrate current developments in Australia.... -- Course Website
