This unit examines the important aspects of process selection, flowsheet development, equipment selection, cost estimation and optimisation of mineral/metallurgical process plant performance. Topics include process design (feasibility studies and selection of processes; process development; equipment selection; capital/operating cost estimations); process modelling and simulation (modelling of unit operations; introduction to commercial simulation packages in mineral processing—MODSIM); and operations research (introduction to optimisation techniques such as linear and nonlinear programming, project scheduling—MODSIM). -- Course Website
