This unit provides an overview of the processes used to extract metals from ores: (1) mineral processing—crushing, grinding, sizing, concentration, solid-liquid separation, gas cleaning, flow sheets; (2) pyrometallurgy—fuels, roasting and calcining, smelting of oxides and sulphides, electrometallurgy, refining, material balances, flow sheets; and (3) hydrometallurgy—chemical principles, processing steps and practical considerations, local hydrometallurgical processes, environmental aspects. -- Course Website
