This unit explores the broad collective and individual significance of negotiation with particular reference to the role of negotiation within workplace relations. It considers theories of the negotiation process, the social context of negotiation, the importance of preparation and strategy, third-party intervention, ethics, and negotiating in an intercultural context. The unit also considers the impact of the structural features of industrial relations systems on the nature of the negotiation process, with a particular focus on enterprise bargaining. Students examine case studies and undertake negotiation exercises to experience the practical aspects of the subject. -- Course Website
