This unit builds on Level 2 macroeconomics by introducing students to the study of the process of modern economic development. The analysis considers key principles and concepts associated with economic development, and alternative theories of the development process and their relevance to the recent experience of developing countries. It also examines specific issues and policy problems that are currently faced by developing nations. These include issues such as economic growth, inequality, poverty, population growth, rural-urban migration, education, rural land and labour markets, credit constraints and international trade.
