This unit covers heat transfer equipment; the use of pinch technology to minimise energy use; separation technology; distillation; multicomponent distillation; the use of minimum vapour traffic to sequence distillation events; membranes, both gas and liquid use; strategies for process design development; and various design-related topics such as PFDs versus PIDs, basic plant control, plant layout, capital cost estimation, utilities, safety equipment and emission modelling. Students undertake case studies of process systems—gas-to-liquid, biodiesel and CO2 capture. -- Course Website
