The objective of this unit is to provide students with a broad knowledge and understanding of the concepts and methods used in molecular biology. The unit extends many of the topics introduced in SCIE1106 Molecular Biology of the Cell. The unit details DNA, RNA and protein synthesis; the regulation of gene activity in prokaryotes and eukaryotes; bioinformatics; recombinant DNA technology and genetic engineering. The practical work familiarises the students with techniques basic to molecular biology. -- Course Website
