By discussing in historical sequence some of the great discoveries in archaeology, this unit introduces the techniques and concepts that archaeologists use to construct the past and its relationship to the contemporary world. Students learn how artefacts, food remains and other evidence for human behaviour is identified, dated, analysed and interpreted to find out about the past. The unit uses examples from different time periods and regions, such as Homer's Troy, ancient mummies and African sites of humans' earliest ancestors to learn how to think like an archaeologist. -- Course Website
