This unit examines how people in different societies resolve disputes, exercise power and maintain social control. Students examine topics such as the cultural context of legal systems and practices, legal pluralism, international human rights, the relationship between customary and European law, land claims, native title and property, from anthropological perspectives. -- Course Website
