Plants, pathogens and invertebrate animals are three groups of organisms that can be both beneficial to humans and also pests. Plants are grown commercially for food production but may also be weeds. Invertebrate animals, particularly insects, are critical to food production as pollinators, are natural enemies of other insects and weeds, but may also be pests in their own right. Likewise, pathogens can be natural enemies of insect pests and weeds, but may also cause disease in productive animals and plants.
