This is a course for students beginning the study of Japanese who wish to take two courses per semester in the concentrated progression. This course must be taken at the same time as JAPN1012. (Students who wish to only take one course each semester should begin with JAPN1013 Japanese 1A standard). This course is designed to introduce students to the Japanese language and develops conversational skills for use in everyday situations. Students learn to read and write in Japanese using the two phonetic syllabaries, hiragana and katakana (46 syllables each) and 100 kanji (Chinese characters).
