In-depth introduction to modern Chinese society, culture, institutions & economy from 1800-1950. Particular attention is paid to the following themes: rebellion and revolution, relations between urban and rural society, and the impact of imperialism on Chinese politics, society, economy and ideas.<br/>This course may not run if there are fewer than 20 enrolments. -- Course Website
