Subject Area: Chinese Studies<br/><br/>This course examines important Chinese literary works in modern and contemporary periods. It covers different genres such as short stories, prose, poetry, derivative works (e.g. films) as well as literary criticism in Chinese literature. The course will discuss a diversified range of authors and literary works through modern critical theory frameworks. They include Mainland Chinese authors such as Hao Ran, Taiwanese writers such as Bai Xianyong and Chen Yingzhen, and diaspora Chinese writers such as Gao Xinjian.
