Subject Area: Politics<br/>This course can also be studied in the following specialisations: Australian Studies; International Relations<br/><br/>This course examines the human rights debate in Australia. It investigates the frameworks within which rights are protected including the international human rights treaties that Australia has ratified, and domestic mechanisms for the promotion and protection of rights including legislation and the role of the High Court. Norms of rights protection will be analysed against case studies including refugees, women, sexuality, indigenous persons, and freedom of speech. The question of a national bill of rights is central to the course. -- Course Website
