Students will learn more advanced techniques used in clinical and research immunology laboratories. These include assays for lymphocyte proliferation, cytokines, cell mediated cytotoxicity and detection of transgene by PCR. In vivo experimental models of immune disorders such as graft-versus-host disease are also examined. The course is laboratory based with tutorials covering theoretical aspects. Students will also conduct a six-week 'mini-project' (most projects run in the Department of Immunology at the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct), working in small groups attached to a research laboratory.
