This unit studies the educational policy and practice interface, critically analysing national and Victorian educational policy and discourses around social justice. It examines the Melbourne Declaration on the Educational Goals for Young Australians (2008), the draft Australian Curriculum (2011) and NAPLAN testing and the Social Inclusion Principles for Australia as attempts to redress socioeconomic disadvantage and advance social justice and inclusion. It examines federal and state policies and the ways they are enacted at classroom level. The focus is on constructive ways of developing and improving curriculum and pedagogy to enhance learning outcomes and life futures for all students. -- Course Website
