This unit provides a framework for designing research methodologies relevant to social and community welfare by examining the history, nature, function and current role of social and community research. Using a problem-based approach, students engage in exercises requiring resolution of ethical and methodological issues and dilemmas, including forming researchable questions, negotiating selection of appropriate design and method; developing awareness of underpinning agendas and vested interests; and knowledge of philosophical and theoretical positions. Issues concerning research with individuals, groups, communities and organisations in a range of contexts are also explored and examined. -- Course Website
