The unit introduces students some issues in music sociology, and the ways in which people study and analyse the relationship between music and society. This will be approached by looking at types of performances and their contexts, the way musicians and their roles are formed in our society, the influence of social difference on music in our society, and the interactions of music and the music industry, looking at music as commodity and intellectual property. -- Course Website
