Through a study of modern fantasy narratives, we will explore the oral and literary traditions of myth, hero legend and fairy tale. Students will be introduced to theoretical approaches that can help explain the shaping influence of traditional material and the diversity of contemporary fantasy writing. There will be an opportunity for students to consider these topics in relation to their own creative writing. -- Course Website
