This unit will explore German literature in the Age of Goethe, focussing on key issues such as national identity and the construction of the self within the framework of political and social change. It will encourage a close critical reading of texts produced mainly between 1770 and 1830, examining modes of narratives in the light of contemporary theory. -- Course Website
