The first part of the unit focuses on basic aspects of the Japanese language and system of communication, particularly as they relate to intercultural communication. Topics covered will include computers and the Japanese script, code switching and borrowing, variation, and intercultural communication. The second part examines the nature of communicative competence in Japanese and introduces some theories about how a second language is learned and how teaching and learning can be optimised. -- Course Website
