The unit looks at international dimensions of Australian cultural production and its audiences. Students will study a range of historical and contemporary Australian cultural texts such as film and literature, analysing how their images of Australian experience and forms of national identity have been received and understood in international contexts. They will also reflect on the European traditions that have helped to develop and shape the Australian cultural imaginary. Finally, students will be introduced to relevant theories and concepts in this area such as cosmopolitanism, transnationalism and globalisation. -- Course Website
