The aim of this unit is to provide translation and interpreting students with the opportunity to discuss and practice advanced translation and interpreting skills in one specialised area of community interpreting, that is, legal interpreting. Students will analyse the complex linguistic, cultural and ethical challenges of translating legal documents and interpreting in legal settings. Students will explore the theoretical foundations of the law, legal terminology and discourse, and the roles of various participants in the Australian legal system.
