The purpose of the unit is to build on existing basic knowledge of grammar in spoken and/or signed languages by introducing and examining gestural communication in face-to-face communication. The emphasis in this unit will be on the semiotic, linguistic and cultural aspects of gestural communication and how this can complement (or serve as a basis of a critique of) major schools or theories of grammar that the students will have already been exposed to in undergraduate study or other units. -- Course Website
