The focus is on land in an urban context with particular emphasis on the regulation of land use under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Law 1979 (NSW). The unit provides an understanding of the workings of land use regulation in New South Wales and the underlying social, cultural and economic objectives of the key legislation. A critical analysis is undertaken of the effectiveness of the current regulatory regime including reform proposals and options.
