This unit presents an historical and conceptual approach to citizenship from ancient world to the present. The aim of the unit is to enhance students' theoretical understanding of issues of citizenship and national identity in an historical setting, moving from classical understandings of citizenship through the Renaissance and early modern period to the new spaces of digital culture. Students should be able to read literature in the field thoroughly and critically, frame theoretical discussions in the field and develop new ways to conceptualising citizenship. -- Course Website
