This unit introduces a theoretical framework for the analysis of intercultural communication. Some of the concepts introduced in ICOM100, such as power and discourse will be revisited and reapplied. Students will be introduced to Marshall McLuhan's notion of the global village and look at the importance of intercultural communication as part of the latest phase of globalisation. Lectures and tutorials are dedicated to the cultural, economic and political implications of intercultural communication and will address intercultural communication across university settings, in the workplace, and in the media.
