Based in dance principles rather than generic technique, this unit is structured around the physical realities of weight; flow; rhythm; extension; succession; fall and recovery; muscular memory; creativity; improvisation; focus and partnering. This dance class mode of instruction employs a wide variety of dance genres to allow students to discover their unique style while improving their skill and fitness. A variety of teachers offer instruction in modern dance, hip hop, contact improvisation, yoga, and social dance forms. Students have opportunities to create their own dances.
