The study of programming languages is important because of the central role that programming, of one form or another, plays in computing. This unit aims to provide students with a comprehensive view of the features of modern programming languages, and to introduce students to the implementation of these languages. The two aims are pursued in parallel; the syntax and semantics of programming languages are discussed at the same time as the necessary implementation techniques. These lectures are supplemented by practical exercises in language implementation. -- Course Website
